대한정형외과 연구학회는 정형외과와 관련된 기초의학 연구 및 발전을 위하여 정형외과 의사 및 관련 연구자들이 모임을 결성하여 1995년 6월 23일 창립되었으며, 회장직은 초대회장 석세일(서울의대) 선생님, 2대 회장 장준섭(연세의대) 선생님, 3대 회장 김영민(서울의대) 선생님, 4대 회장 강응식(연세의대) 선생님, 5대 회장 황병연(전북의대), 6대 회장 배대경(경희의대) 선생님, 7대 회장 박상원(고려의대) 선생님, 8대 회장 정문상 (서울의대) 선생님, 9대 회장 우영균 (가톨릭의대) 선생님, 10대 회장  성상철 (서울의대)선생님, 11대 회장 김명호 (단국의대) 선생님이 역임하였다. 현 회장은 황성관 (원주의대) 회원, 총무는 임군일 (동국의대) 회원이 활동하고 있으며 학회 사무실은 동국대학교 일산병원  정형외과 의국내에 위치하고 있다. 학술활동으로는 1995년 6월 23일 창립총회 및 학술대회를 개최한 것을 필두로, 1995년 12월 1일 제 1회 학술대회 및 총회가 개최된 이래 매년 1회의 정기학술대회 및 정기총회를 개최하고 있다. 2000년  10월부터는 1985년에 설립된 대한생체역학회와  합동학술대회를 진행하였고 2002년  10월 대한정형외과연구학회와  대한생체역학회가 통합하여 정식명칭을 대한정형외과 연구, 생체, 기초학회로 하여 발족하였다.  1998년 4월 30일 학회지 창간호(제 1호 학회지)를 발간한 이래 현재까지 매년 4월, 10월에 연 2회에 걸쳐 학회지를 발간하고 있으며 2004년 6월 6일 제 1 회 연수 강좌를 개최한 이래 매년 1회 연수강좌를 개최하고 있다. 2007년 1월 현재 학회 정회원수는  287명이며 본 학회 내부 위원회로는 평의원회, 편집위원회, 학술위원회가 있어 약 40명의 회원이 임원진으로 활동하고 있다.  

 Korean Orthopaedic Research Society (KORS) was founded in the year 1995 by orthopaedic surgeons and scientists to promote and advance the basic research related to musculoskeletal system. Prof. Se-Il Suk was the founding president, and the position is now held by Prof. Myung-Ho Kim. The office of this society is currently located at the Orthopaedic Department of Dongguk University International Hospital, which is the affiliation of Prof. Gun-Il Im, the General Secretary. KORS merged with Korean Society of Biomechanics in 2002, and adopted the full name of Korean Society for Orthopaedic Research, Biomechanics, and Basic Science. The academic activities of KORS include the annual meeting that is usually held in October just before KOA meeting, and the annual  ICL in the spring time. The Journal of Korean Orthopaedic Research Society is being published twice a year starting from April 30 1998, and receives around 12 original and review articles per issue.    There are 287 active members in KORS as of January 2007. The committees of KORS comprise the General Board, the Editorial Board, and the Scientific Committee.
